Graham Thomas Swale Area Planning Officer – APM Services Bapchild Consultation Commentary

T0: Bapchild Parish Council,

Many thanks for sending through the consultation leaflet regarding a proposed significant housing development at School Lane, Bapchild. As you are aware this leaflet was not sent by or on behalf of the Borough Council, but is purely a private initiative.

Although the Council's website is mentioned in the leaflet the land in question is not subject to a current planning application and is not a site allocated for development in the Council's soon to be adopted Local Plan.

This Plan provides for a 5.4 year supply of housing sites and its policies will therefore be up-to-date in terms of the NPPF. The land lies within a defined countryside gap designed to maintain the separate identities of Sittingbourne and Bapchild and development here would be contrary to the aims of the Local Plan.

If a planning application were to be submitted the Council would have to consider it, but that would be done in the context of the policies of the newly adopted Local Plan and any material considerations that might justify an exception to its policies. People should feel free to respond to the consultation on the basis that this is not consultation on a planning application, and on the basis that the responses might not be seen by the Council.

With thanks and best wishes.
